Some Words About Our Owner - Janice Gorman
Janice Gorman is a 1993 graduate of Ohio College of Massotherapy. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Reiki Master. She was first introduced to the benefits of massage therapy while working at a busy chiropractic office in the mid-1980’s.
“As a chiropractic assistant, I was trained to put the patients on the adjusting tables and massage them. This enabled the patients to relax, and it was often easier for the doctor to adjust them. I saw first-hand how well chiropractic and massage therapy complemented one another, so I decided to enroll in classes at Ohio College of Massotherapy.
After leasing space at a chiropractic office in Wadsworth for approximately one year, I opened “Body in Knead Massage Clinic” on Leatherman Road in 1994. The office moved a few times over the years and eventually landed at the corner of Wooster & Hopocan in Barberton, where it is currently located.
I took some time off from having my own business and worked in the insurance industry for several years; it paid the bills but never really “fed my soul”, so I took a part-time job as a massage therapist, and realized God was calling me back to work in the healing arts again. I decided to explore alternative hands-on therapies that were easier on the practitioner and equally effective in treating the patient. This led me to CranioSacral therapy and Reiki.
I began my studies in CranioSacral therapy in 2012 and have enjoyed integrating it, along with Reiki, into my massage practice. I have learned that body work does not have to include only deep tissue therapies to be effective. Energy work, like chakra balancing and Reiki, have had a profound effect on my patients’ abilities to become aware of emotional trauma that is sometimes at the core of their physical pain and illness. It is my belief that intuitive healing arts assist greatly in promoting self-awareness and can often empower us by actively participating in releasing the cause of our own pain and dysfunction. Plus it’s a much gentler approach than deep tissue work and is often more effective, as it encourages healing in body, mind & spirit. My clients have been amazed at the results they have experienced with CranioSacral therapy and Reiki, although some still prefer the deep tissue / relaxation combo which has become my signature massage style.”
